New Report: Mapping the Illicit E-Waste Trade Between the UK and Ghana
In a new report from Safe Seas, CEMLAWS, and the Partnership for Conflict, Crime & Security Research, PaCCS Placement Researcher Kanchelli Iddrisu explores the extent, nature, and impact of the e-waste trade between the UK and Ghana.
‘Based on interviews and surveys the research maps eight key sites along the e-waste trade route between the UK and Ghana, this report and accompanying policy briefing characterize the illicit aspect of this trade, and establishes the main drivers of the trade. The report ultimately recommends that Ghana should decentralise institutions linked to reducing e-waste flows, digitise data, increase data sharing, ratify the Bamako convention. It also recommends that law enforcement, UK manufacturers, and UK consumers be made more aware of the issue.
