JSaRC and HMPPS Industry Engagement Event – Solving the HM Prison Visitor Verification Challenge
17 July 2018 | London | 10.00 – 14.00
A Joint Security and Resilience Centre (JSaRC) and HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) event will be held in London on 17 July 2018. The purpose of the event is to introduce JSaRC and, for the HM Prison and Probation Service, to brief industry on the current challenges they are facing with visitor identification and verification.
The existing methods for visitor identification and verification at HM Prisons can be a time-consuming and complicated process. More than 120 prisons in the UK collectively host many thousands of visitors every day and, with most prisons still using manual paper based systems, avoidable problems do occur.
The goals of the challenge are to:
- ensure that the process of visiting a prison is efficient, accurate and simple to use, while improving the security of the service as a whole
- enable better sharing of visitor data
- improve the ability to verify visitors across the whole of the prison service
- improve the use of technology including facial recognition and other biometric systems to support prison security
The event will include opportunities to:
- hear about the objectives and scope of JSaRC
- understand the challenges currently being faced by HMPPS
- find out about the goals of the project and the benefits it will bring
- explore ideas with HMPPS and other stakeholders
- obtain information on how to get involved with JSaRC
- network and develop ideas and partnerships
The panel for the event is still to be been finalised, and currently includes representatives from HM Prison and Probation Service.
Reserve your place by clicking and completing this form. Confirmation and a detailed itinerary for the event will follow. Places are limited and subject to approval.

The Joint Security and Resilience Centre (JSaRC) was established in 2016 to enable government, the security sector and academia (including SMEs and both technical and non technical solution providers) to work together and engage more closely in order to respond to national security challenges. Unique in its structure and approach, JSaRC is a partnership organisation, located within the Office for Security and Counter Terrorism (OSCT), focused on providing the security sector, private sector and academia with a single route of access into the complex machinery of government, sharing strategic priorities and coordinating support.
JSaRC’s approach encourages growth opportunities in the security sector; shaping a market space in which academia, small, medium and large companies are able to understand short and medium term priorities and engage with government more effectively.
